Power Failure and More
The electrician turned up today and decided to pull the power without telling us before hand. We lost power to the whole rack as well as the main UPS.

Great – we were in the middle of installing AutoCAD licensing server on one of the virtual machines. We didn’t even know until the CAD guys said that something’s wrong. All this straight after I’ve been saying how great Virtual Server is, the thing crashes and now I can’t get into it. A great promotion of the new technology.
Anyhow, the new 100 Amp circuit breaker will be installed as soon as the electrician figures out what’s wrong with his own handiwork. It’s like watching a child play with Lego for the first time.
I was trying to join the new domain controller to the domain without any luck – I’m sure there’s some ports being blocked between here and Houston via the VSAT link. This will require Joncy to investigate. It’s an uphill battle with everything in this place. Just when you think something is actually going to work out a new challenge is shoved in front of you.
The good thing is that we have upgraded the fiber link to 1M symmetric. The speed increase is massive – can’t believe they have been putting up with this poor network for so long, especially with an office of more than 300 people.
I was invited to dinner with Francis and Ed along with Biodun and a guy from Komex in the UK. Francis was leaving for South Africa and this was his going away dinner. He informed me that WP has won the Mobil job worth 1 billion. So now it looks like we’ll be moving personnel into this site as soon as possible – just in time for the upgrades and new infrastructure.
