Servers Overheating

My time here is running out. With less than a week left I’m starting to feel the pressure mounting. So much still to do and not enough time to finish everything; I hope that we can pull this off.

My time here is running out.  With less than a week left I’m starting to feel the pressure mounting.  So much still to do and not enough time to finish everything; I hope that we can pull this off.

The whole computer room is heating up like an oven.  We have decided to install a third Air Conditioning unit to cool the place down, especially now that we have the rack and all the servers running.  Standing behind the rack you could cook a lamb.  The AC installation started this morning however by the end of the day it’s still not turned on.  I’m thinking that in the event of a power outage for an extended period of time the servers will shut down because of overheating.

Joncy has  made some changes to the network and I’m hoping that his router fiddling will fix the AD replication issues.  I’ve had Daffy looking at the AD issues since yesterday so let’s hope he can figure it out.  I’ve been busy fixing ISA and making sure that everyone is getting routed via the fiber onto the net and not congesting the VSAT link.  I only want the VSAT link to carry email and infrastructure traffic.

At about 4:30pm I decided to try and join ADC01 to the domain.  Joncy made some changes to the routers so hopefully now it will want to replicate and join.  Here goes….

I’m prompted for the WP domain credentials – that’s one hurdle out of the way… let’s see if it actually goes through.  “Welcome to the WP domain”  - alright!! We are on our way.   Now to wait it out to replicate over the 512k link.  Might be all night before I know if things are ok.

I left for the hotel at around 7:30pm.  I decided to see in Hans is still around – turns out it’s his last day so we went out to the cigar lounge to smoke a cigar in honor of his departure.  His collection of Monte Cristo is stuck in Lagos with me now, because he can’t leave with tobacco (another Nigerian restriction).  Dinner was great, and so was the cigar.  After dinner Hans invited me to his room to see his videos of Indonesia and the travelling he did through the rivers and mangroves.  I really enjoyed them.  It got me thinking that I might hook up with him the next time he goes away on holiday.
