Day 14. Frans Indongo Lodge
We hit the road towards Etosha, just like Leander suggested, stopping half way at Frans Indongo Lodge.
After a sleep-in we got into the car and drove around to find
this Nature Friends Safari guy who Elke recommended.
Apparently he would help us organize the last leg of our trip to
Etosha.
Once you drive around Windhoek a few times, you realize that
it's quite a small place where it's almost impossible to get
lost. For us it was the massive water tower on the hill
adjoining Klein Windhoek which acted as a navigation beacon.
No matter where we ventured, and no matter how lost we thought we
were, all it took was a quick scan of the horizon to find our
marker and drive towards it.
We located Nature Friends Safari and spoke to Leander, who after
a quick coffee organized our whole two day Etosha excursion.
Not a bad effort considering we gave him a whole of an hour to
organize accommodation. We didn't' have much time considering
that Ann-Marie was flying out in a few days and Leander suggested
that we jump in the car and start driving this afternoon, stop half
way and then continue on the way the following day.
We did as he suggested.
Night one of our Etosha expedition was spent at Frans Indongo
Lodge (http://www.indongolodge.com),
roughly half way between Windhoek and Etosha, and about 43km after
Otjiwarongo. Only a short detour on the D2433. We
arrived there just after dark, in time for dinner. In the
morning we realized that the lodge consists of a number of
bungalows with thatched roofs. At the back of the complex,
there was an animal (game) observation deck with cushy chairs as
well as a high observation tower, exposing the full panorama of the
property.
Another long day.
